MicroKorg:
The
microKORG is a small (duh!) synth, it has mini-keys, which I have no problem
with at all, as I can’t play keyboard anyway! So why did I buy it?
Well, it’s cheap (YES! CHEAP) And for me it does the job. For all
the technical info you should check out the Korg
website, and for all the reviews check out sonic
state website. The sounds it can produce are quite diverse, from trance
pads (yuck) to distortion Drum and Bass sounds (YES!) Also strange bleeps,
sweeps and swishes (yes, that is a real word) are no problem.
The polyphony is 4, which some people may find limiting. It has a built
in distortion, plus a delay, flanger/chorus effect. You have 2 OSC’s.
And can have two parts for one sound, this way the polyphony drops down
to 1 or 2, but you get really fat sounds this way. It has two external
inputs, which can be used as OSC. Source (MIC or line level), or for the
vocoder which is nice for robot voices or screwing up external sounds.
I use it as a controller keyboard for the pc/laptop (knobs send out midi)
It can also run on batteries, which is nice for use with the laptop. And
for creating strange noizes that I use for intro’s and background
noize.
All in all a versatile little synth, you can also download software to
edit the microKorg with a PC, and enables you to backup your patches on
the PC.
And sonic state also has a nice article
on the MicroKorg, and btw, I am not being paid to promote sonicstate,
I just think it's a really good source to get information!
